Boomers’ point guard Patrick Mills has carried the Melbourne Tigers to an 82-76 point win over the Sydney Kings in the inaugural Capital City Clash on Friday night, making history as the first current NBA player to play in the NBL.

In a spirited fourth-quarter comeback that brought the ‘Cage’ crowd to life, the Tigers put their offensive structure on the backburner as Mills (28 points, 8/18 from the field) and Ayinde Ubaka (22 points) rained clutch triples to put away the Kings, who led by as many as 14 points late in the third quarter.

Le public qui avait rempli les travées de l'Astroballe n'a pas été déçu. Tony Parker, meilleur joueur de l'histoire du basket français, a montré l'étendue de son talent dès son premier match sous les couleurs de l'ASVEL. Le triple champion NBA a marqué 10 de ses 21 points dans le dernier quart-temps pour permettre à son équipe de remporter son premier match de la saison. Parker a également délivré sa sixième et dernière passe décisive à Phil Goss, auteur du panier à trois-points de la victoire de l'ASVEL 75-73.

Les Villeurbannais avaient démarré la rencontre sur les chapeaux de roues, portés par leur public. Ils menaient ainsi 29-14 à l'issue du premier quart-emps, et encore 42-33 à la pause. «On a fait une bonne première mi-temps puis on s'est relâché», a expliqué Tony Parker après la rencontre au micro de Sport+. Les Parisiens ont en effet démarré la seconde mi-temps par un 20-4, Lamont Hamilton et Vincent Masingue se relayant dans la raquette pour prendre le dessus sur le secteur intérieur villeurbannais. «Il faut qu'on progresse au rebond», a d'ailleurs indiqué Parker. Le Paris Levallois a ainsi compté jusqu'à 7 points d'avance en fin de troisième quart-temps, avant que Jaimie Skeen, auteur de 13 points, ne marque à trois-points et monte au dunk pour relancer l'ASVEL.

Tony Parker a ensuite pris le relais, marquant rapidement 10 points avec notamment deux tirs à trois-points. Mais le PL est resté au contact, repassant même devant à deux minutes de la fin sur un panier derrière l'arc de Michel Morandais. Servi par Parker, Phil Goss lui a répondu pour redonner l'avantage à l'ASVEL. Trenton Meacham a ensuite eu la balle de match à huit secondes de la fin, mais a finalement laissé échappé la balle, bien défendu par Goss et Parker.

L'ASVEL tentera d'enchaîner vendredi prochain, toujours à 19h30 devant les caméras de Sport+, face à Gravelines-Dunkerque, tandis que le Paris Levallois se déplacera dans le même temps sur le parquet de l'Elan Béarnais.

Melbourne Tigers have clawed their way past the Wollongong Hawks to beat them 82-74 in a blistering second half on Sunday.

Patty Mills’ 20 points spearheaded the Tigers to overcome a double-digit half-time lead, as the Hawks suffered a horrific 2-25 scoring drought across the third and fourth quarters.

After a relatively quiet first half, Mills exploded for 13 points in the third quarter, while former Hawk Cam Tragardh finished with 13 points as Melbourne held Wollongong to 47 points after quarter-time.

“I thought our guys really locked in defensively,” Tigers coach Trevor Gleeson said.

“Lucas Walker really got us going off the bench, his stats probably don't show the contribution he had on the game, but he certainly changed our intensity level and everybody jumped on board after that.”

“We're still trying to get into a rhythm with each other, but every game we're improving, we're seeing some really good signs.”

Joevan Catron posted 12 of his team-high 18 points in the first half with a spectacular mix of jumpers and drives to the basket, but he and the Hawks couldn't overcome their critical cold stretch.

The crafty import fuelled the Hawks in the opening stages, bamboozling the Tigers with his inside-outside game for 10 quick points as Wollongong surged ahead 27-15.

The second stanza turned into a grind as the scoring pace slowed. The Hawks led by as much as 15, but the Tigers closed the half with an 8-3 spurt to trail 29-39.

An 11-5 start to the third cut the deficit and then a 14-4 run capped by a Mills three-pointer gave the visitors a 54-53 lead with 10 minutes to play.

A pair of threes by Ayinde Ubaka (14 points) helped push the margin to 14, before the Hawks injected Showron Glover (6 assists) into the game for the first time to try to mount a comeback.

After their road trip to Cairns on Friday, however, the Hawks didn't have the legs to catch the Tigers.

“Backing up I thought it was a pretty good effort from the group, but in the end it was our defence that let us down,” Hawks coach Gordie McLeod said.

“We played them hard, we played them tough, we just needed to play them smarter.”

Duro que eu falei serio... a rotação do Clippers pode muito bem ficar Billups/Bledsoe, sendo Mo Will anistiado, como ja foi tanto especulado, ou mesmo agora, uma possivel troca do Bledsoe junto com o Mo Will por um SG de mais nome.
