J.R. Smith exploded in his return to action in China, dropping 52 points, 22 rebounds and seven steals.
His knee injury isn't a problem, clearly, and it also seems that he's found a healthy outlet for his frustrations with his new team. They haven't been pleased with him but apparently want him to honor his contract through March, and outrageous games like this won't inspire them to release him.

The NBA will reportedly allow teams to contribute $500,000 to the buyout of contracts signed by players to play in China before the lockout.

Kenyon Martin was expected by some to play out his China contract in full, whereas J.R. Smith and Wilson Chandler were more likely to get out of their contracts by paying back the money they earned or becoming disgruntled quickly. This allowance is significant because it allows players to pay back monies they've earned with NBA team money, so their trip overseas isn't a total bust. For fantasy purposes, Smith is unlikely to return to Denver, Arron Afflalo has earned 30-38 minutes regardless, and Chandler's availability will determine where on that scale Afflalo land

J.R. Smith recently torched Beijing for 43 points, nine boards and five assists.
He's still trying to work his way back into the NBA, but the jury is out on when or if it will happen. He's playing very well in China and the Nuggets could really use him. And if he does return, he'll likely damper the outlook for Arron Afflalo, if Afflalo re-ups with the Nuggets.
