Reggie Miller diz que escolheria Bird over Lebron no draft
Reggie Miller is known to be loquacious. Whether he speaks in hyperbole or takes a mystifying stance while announcing games, Miller often openly expresses his opinion. Miller is of course, able to say whatever he wants but sometimes he makes a statement that makes you stop and think.
This is what Miller recently did in an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show. Patrick threw a hypothetical at Miller, if he had to choose in a draft, who would he pick - Larry Bird in his prime or LeBron James?
Miller did mull over his answer but after learning that this hypothetical would be taking place with the present day NBA rules, the former Indiana Pacers star quickly said Bird.
"I gotta go with Larry Joe (Bird's middle name is Joe)," Miller said. "In today's rules, you can't touch him!"
After hearing Bird's stats when the Celtics legend was 30 years old, Miller reiterated his stance, gave a stare to Patrick and said, "Larry Joe for the win."
When Bird was the coach of the Pacers from 1997 to 2000, Miller was the team's star. So perhaps, Miller is just showing allegiance to his former coach. Bird does have more NBA championship rings than James (three vs. two) and his ability to spread the floor with his shot would definitely make him lethal in today's NBA game. However, it seems foolish for Miller to quickly dismiss everything James can do on the basketball court.
But again this is Miller's opinion on a hypothetical situation.
